Richmond vs Carlton, Round 1 AFL Tips

The 2021 AFL Season kicks off on a Thursday Night, and we have the traditional season opener between the Richmond Tigers and the Carlton Blues to kick off proceedings.

The Tigers are the reigning premiers and will be looking for a three-peat this year, whilst the Blues will be looking for some finals action for the first time in an extended period.

AFL Season 2021 will be interesting as we are back to a projected full season, and the fixtures for the entire year have been set.

It will be interesting to see how sides and coaches cope with some new rules and fewer rotations.

The fact that we are back to 20 minute quarters is also welcoming, and this will test some of the players’ fitness throughout the season and during intense matches. This is also welcoming for all the fantasy football players who don’t need to adjust their statistical projections based on shorter quarters.

Be sure to check back before each round of the 2020 AFL Season for AFL Tips, AFL Player Props and AFL Previews.

Round 1 2020, Richmond 16.9 105 – Carlton 12.9 81

(Richmond by 24 Points)

There was no crowd at the MCG, and it was sadly the last time we saw the injury Prone Ruckman Matthew Kreuzer from Carlton play in the AFL.

The Tigers were too good for the Blues, and it was midfielders Dustin Martin and Dion Prestia that led the way for the Tigers. Jack Martin was a shining light for the Blues and managed to boot four goals.

This is the traditional season opener, and both sides will want to get off to a flyer. The Tigers may not have the most talent of any of the AFL Teams, but they play well as a team and have had the better of the Blues in recent seasons.

Dustin Martin looks like he may take his game up a notch this season, and the Tigers will be dangerous this season. They know how to control the play and have the big forwards to get the job done consistently.

The Blues have a heavy reliance on Patrick Cripps in the middle of the ground and seem to lack firepower up forward. They are up against it in this contest but have been competitive in this match in recent seasons.

Expect the Blues to stick around in the early stages, but the Tigers experience campaigners to help them pull away in the closing stages.

Our Pick – Richmond (Win)

Player Prop

Dion Prestia + 24.5 Disposals – Click for Odds

Presita has had an interrupted last couple of seasons with injury, but last news has captain Trent Cotchin out with injury.

Prestia will be one of the main men in the middle of the ground for the Tigers and did have an adjusted average close to this number last year.

It is difficult to pick the Props with the adjusted length of games, but expect Prestia to win a lot of the football and his 86.5 Fantasy points will probably get covered.
