Round 12, Saturday AFL Tips 2020

Round 12 of the 2020 AFL Season and we have something rare over the past couple of weeks, and that is three games on the same day.

Saturday AFL for the 15th of August and it all starts with the Kangaroos taking on the Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium. We then head to the Gabba where the Melbourne Demons are in form and will look to continue it against an injury-depleted Magpies outfit. Saturday Night Football sees the Fremantle Dockers host the Carlton Blues at Optus Stadium.

Friday Night Football saw the Geelong Cats beat the ladder leading Power in a one-sided contest. The short match lengths may be helping the ageing Cats side, and they are now a real contender this year.

Be sure to check back each round for AFL Footy Tips, AFL Predictions and AFL Previews for each round of the 2020 AFL Season.

Last Round

The Kangaroos were well outclassed by the Demons in their last clash and lost the match by 57 Points. Coach Shaw has made a lot of changes to the lineup for this game.

The Lions were tested against the Bulldogs, but were too good and won the match by 4 Goals.

The Kangaroos have made seven changes for this clash which is never a good sign. Prize recruit Jared Polec and Jaspar Pittard are part of the outs.

For the Lions, they lose Daniel Rich to suspension, and Cam Ellis-Yolman has bee dropped. Ryan Lester and Rhys Matheson get their chances at senior football.

Current Head to Head Odds

North Melbourne – $6.5

Brisbane – $1.12

Prediction

Don’t overthink about this game although stranger things have happened and the Kangaroos can occasionally turn it on. The Brisbane Midfield should be too strong, and they should get it done by a comfortable gap.

Our Pick – Brisbane (Win)

Player Prop – Jarrod Berry + 74.5 Fantasy Points

Normally a tagger, but with the Kangaroos out of form, he may find himself free in this clash. This is his season average and conditions are expected to be wet. That means a lot of tackles and Berry is strong in that area with an average of 4.6 Per Game.

Last Round

The Demons looked like they were at training in their 57 Point win over the Kangaroos last Sunday.

An injury-depleted Magpies side was tested against the Crows in the early stages last Tuesday, but came out on top by 4 Goals.

A few changes for both sides with the Demons losing Mitch Hannan, Luke Jackson and Trent Rivers has been omitted. They welcome back Jack Viney for this game, and Braydon Pruess gets his chance in the ruck. Jay Lockhart also gets another crack at league football.

The Pies have lost Jordan Roughead for this clash as well as Braden Sier. Tim Broomhead, Chris Mayne and Jaidyn Stephenson have been dropped. It is their ins that may make a difference in this match. Scott Pendlebury comes into the team as well as classy defender Darcy Moore. Jamie Elliot, Will Hoskin Elliot and Ben Reid will also help their chances.

Current Head to Head Odds

Melbourne – $2.20

Collingwood – $1.70

Prediction

The Magpies have been a little out of form, but they have missed Scott Pendlebury, and Brodie Grundy will be coming up against a ruckman that has played limited senior football in recent times.

It is easy to get carried away with the current form of the Demons, but they have beaten the two sides at the bottom of the ladder in their last two outings. A consistency that has happened this season is clubs that are coming off a win against the Kangaroos come out flat the following week. That trend may continue here, and the Pies may get the win.

Our Pick – Collingwood (Win)

Player Prop – Jamie Elliott 2+ Goals

With Stephenson out of the side, Elliot will spend a decent amount of time deep in the forward line and the slippery conditions should suit his ground skills. This one is at decent odds, so an outsider but a decent chance.

Fremantle vs Carlton

Last Meeting

Round 15, 2019 Fremantle 11.9 75 – Carlton 11.13 79

(Carlton by 4 Points)

Last 5 Meetings

Fremantle – 3 Wins

Carlton – 2 Wins

Last Round

The Dockers looked pretty good in their Monday Night clash against the Hawks and won the match by 16 points in a low scoring affair.

The Blues dominated the first half against the Eagles but failed in the latter staged to lose by 22 Points.

The Dockers have massive in for this game, and that is Michael Walters who replaces the injured Travis Colyer.

For the Blues, Jack Martin and Marc Pittonett are out injured, and Harry McKay comes back into the team. Josh Honey will make his AFL Debut.

Current Head to Head Odds

Fremantle – $1.65

Carlton – $2.30

The odds for the Fremantle side have come down for this clash, and that is because of the inclusion of match-winner Michael Walters. The Carlton outs are also significant with Jack Martin and their ruckman Pittonet out for this clash.

The Dockers should win this match, but struggle to put points on the board, and the question is how long can they keep up the pressure that they are currently implementing. Liam Jones is in some good form, and Carlton has some great defenders so scoring may be an issue for Fremantle.

The Dockers have been at home now for an extended period and should get the win here, but will probably need at least 60 Points which they have only done three times this season.

Prediction

Our Pick – Fremantle (Win)

Player Prop – Patrick Cripps 80+ Fantasy Points

Wet conditions are expected and Cripps is one of the best in the AFL at winning the contested ball. Should rack up some tackles and 20+ touches should help him cover this number.
