The PGA Tour heads to Memphis this week for the World Golf Championships, FedEx St Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind in Memphis Tennessee.
Last week saw Michael Thompson win his first win event since 2013 as he putted the lights out and won the event on 19 Under Par.
Take a look at some of the highlights from last week at the 3M Open.
Golf Picks Last Week
A couple of top tens from our four picks last week with Tony Finau and Cameron Tringale both having decent weeks at the 3M Open. Here is how our picks from last week went.
Tony Finau – T3 (-16)
Cameron Tringale – T3 (-16)
Russell Henley – Missed Cut
Bubba Watson – Missed Cut
Golf Course
TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee
Length – 7238 Yards
Par – 70
Previous Winner – Brooks Koepka (-16)
There is a lot of water around this golf course although there are some forgiving spots to miss fairways and still have a shot at the green. Koepka won the event last year and led the field in strokes gained for putting, so the flat stick will need to run hot if a golfer is to be in contention.
Our Picks
Xander Schauffele
Current Odds – $21
Schauffele comes into this event with a week off and a chance to improve his putting after some awesome ball striking in previous events. He is coming off four top 10 finishes in his last five events and should be right there in Sunday if he starts holing some putts.
Tyrell Hatton
Current Odds – $26
One of the best putters in the field, Hatton has had a mini-break, but has been impressive with two top 5 finishes at both the RBC Heritage and the Rocket Mortgage Classic. It is hard to know if the break will affect him, but he ranks well in putting and approach shots to the green, which are essential at this golf course.
Jason Day
Current Odds – $41
If Jason Day has a good ball-striking tournament, he usually finishes in the top 10 because of his solid short game. Day can putt and is fantastic with his wedges, which generally is rewarding at this golf course.
As long as he keeps the ball in play, he should be thereabouts on Sunday. Day is also coming off two top 10 finishes so should be feeling pretty confident.
Outsider
Chez Reavie
Current Odds – $126
Reavie has played well at this golf course before with top 10 finishes in 2017 and 2018. He has also made the cut in his last four PGA Starts and is solid with the flat stick and wedges. Not the longest hitter, but the distance does not matter too much on this golf course so could surprise.
