Last Week
The Kangaroos had one of the upsets of the round last week beating the GWS Giants away from home by 20 Points, in an impressive display.
The Sydney Swans managed to finish within a kick of the Bombers after a poor start and didn’t do too badly considering their two big forwards are currently out with injury.
Both sides come into this game with no significant changes to their lineups, and the Kangaroos will be looking to win three straight and remain undefeated.
Fact – The last three games between these two sides have been decided by less than a goal.
Why the Kangaroos can Win
The Kangaroos have had a hot start to the 2020 AFL Season and showed they can match it with the best after the big win over the Giants. Their big Ruckman Todd Goldstein was unstoppable last week and spent the entire game on the ground.
Coach Rhys Shaw has the Kangaroos playing with confidence, and some of their younger players are stepping up, with Cam Zurhaar impressing last week with 3 Goals.
They come into this game full of confidence after a massive win and are the definite favourites in this encounter.
Why the Swans Can Win
The Swans may have lost last week, and their only win has come against the disappointing Crows outfit, but they came from behind last week to almost pinch victory.
Their more experienced players are still finding the football, and if somebody can step up and kick some goals up forward, they may provide the Kangaroos with some headaches. They are always a strong, experienced midfield that can offer stable defensive pressure and have some good defenders that can use the football at a high percentage.
Prediction
The Kangaroos looked great last week and should be too strong for a Swans side that lacks goal kicking firepower.
Our Tip – North Melbourne Kangaroos (Win)
Collingwood Magpies vs St Kilda Saints

Round 9 2020 – Collingwood 17.10 112 – St Kilda 10.11 71

Last 5 Meetings
Collingwood – 3 Wins
St Kilda – 2 Wins
Current Head to Heads Odds
Collingwood – $1.43
St Kilda – $2.85
Last Week
The Collingwood side got off to the hot start against Richmond last week, but couldn’t handle the defensive pressure of the Tigers and the match ended in a Draw.
The Saints played an incredibly disappointing Bulldogs side, and it was hard to tell if the Saints were any good or the Dogs were just plain bad. The Bulldogs have beaten the Giants this evening, so perhaps we can read more into the Saints form for that match.
Why the Magpies Can Win
The Magpies have a classy midfield, and they were in good form last week against the Tigers. They welcome back a classy goalkicker in Jaidyn Stephenson who will be a welcome addition as Jamie Elliot is currently struggling with form up forward.
The Collingwood defence is holding up strong and intercept defender, Jeremy Howe is in fine form. Collingwood will probably go in favourites in most of their matches this season and have one of the most talented lists in the AFL.
Why the Saints Can Win
The Saints have been good in the first 2 Rounds and made the Bulldogs look second rate last week, although the Bulldogs didn’t look like they were on the same page out there.
The new Saints recruits are proving valuable, and former Sydney Swan Zak Jones has been an impressive addition to their list. Goal Kicker Dan Butler fits in well up forward, and Brad Hill would be a welcome addition on any AFL Team.
The Saints won the match against the Bulldogs without a single Goal scored from their top goalkicker Tim Membrey and could do some damage if he can find some space.
The Saints are outsiders, but may surprise the Pies if they don’t do their research.
Prediction
Collingwood is the more talented outfit, and it’s hard to tip against them.
Our Tip – Collingwood (Win)
Geelong Cats vs Carlton Blues
Last Meeting
Round 23 2019 – Geelong 19.15 129 – Carlton 8.13 61
(Geelong by 68 Points)
Last 5 Meetings
Geelong – 4 Wins
Carlton – 1 Win
Current Head to Head Odds
Geelong – $1.18
Carlton – $5.00
Last Week
The Cats made easy work of the Hawks who beat the Tigers last night. Carlton came from behind to almost pinch the match against the Demons, only to lose the match by a point.
The Cats have lost Brandon Parfitt to injury who played a great game last week, but that gives recruit and former Saint, Jack Steven a chance to prove his worth.
Carlton has lost defender Nic Newman to injury, but do welcome back Jack Silvagni, who started playing some good footy towards the back end of last year.
Fact – Geelong has won the last three games between these two sides by an average of 54 Points.
Why the Cats can Win
The Cats looked very classy last week, and when Joel Selwood gets a lot of the football, they rarely lose games of football. Geelong is very tough to beat on their home ground and are one of the best AFL Sides on the defensive end.
Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett Jr combined for 7 Goals the last time these sides met, and the Blues will have their hands ful trying to contain a very talented team.
Why the Blues Can Win
Well, they probably can’t win this match, but it’s a two-horse race, and that means they are always a small chance. To win this match, star midfielder Patrick Cripps will have to rack up the contested ball and get some help from some of the other midfielders. They will need to apply a lot of pressure off the football, and Eddie Betts will have to kick a bag of goals.
Prediction
Geelong is tough to beat on their home ground.
Our Pick – Geelong (Win)
Brisbane vs West Coast Eagles
Last Meeting
Round 1 2019 – Brisbane 15.12 102 – West Coast 8.10 58
Last 5 Meetings
Brisbane – 1 Win
West Coast – 4 Wins
Current Head to Head Odds
Brisbane – $1.76
West Coast – $2.07
Last Week
The Lions looked sluggish in their match against the Dockers and have not looked the same as last season just yet. They did beat the Dockers, and Lachie Neale and Charlie Cameron were huge contributors.
The Eagles were smashed by 44 Points by the Wooden Spoon favourites the Gold Coast Suns, and they may be taking a while to adjust being in a hub.
A couple of significant changes in this one with the Lions losing Ruckman Stefan Martin to injury. The Eagles have lost Champion defender Jeremey McGovern to Suspension.
Fact – Before the Lions finally defeated the Eagles last season the Eagles won the previous 4 encounters by an average of 52 Points.
Why the Lions Can Win
The Lions are at home and around familiar surroundings, and some of their better players are playing some good football.
Lachie Neale was impressive last week, and Charlie Cameron put on a show up forward. Their defenders are getting it done, and if some of the other forwards find some form, they will provide the Eagles with a lot of headaches, especially with Eagles big defender Jeremy McGovern out of this match,
Why the Eagles can Win
One of the most talented lists in the AFL, but the loss of a critical defender hurts. Complacency may have played a part in the loss to the lowly Gold Coast last week and a lack of preparation, but the Eagles are always a tough side to beat if they can control the football. Control the football with a lot of marks and provide the forwards with some proper delivery up forward and they will be right in this.
Prediction
Brisbane is tough to beat at home, and that trend should continue.
Our Pick – Brisbane (Win)
