Saturday Night Football, Cats vs Magpies

The second AFL Semi-Final kicks off on a Saturday Night, and we have the Geelong Cats facing off against the Collingwood Magpies at the Gabba in Saturday Night Football.

The Cats didn’t take their opportunities against the Power last week and will be looking to rectify their shots on goal. The Magpies are coming off a gutsy win against the Eagles out West in which they scraped home by a point.

Collingwood – 2 Wins

Last Week

The Cats were decent against the Power, but did not capitalize on their shots on goal, particularly Tom Hawkins and booted 5 goals and 12 behinds to lose the match by 16 points.

The Magpies had one of the wins of the season out west to defeat the West Coast Eagles by a single point, that went down to the wire.

Team Changes

Just the one change for the Cats in this clash, with Tom Atkins out of the side and Sam Simpson coming back in.

The Magpies are confident and will go into this match with no team changes.

Prediction

The Cats were wasteful in front of goal in their match against the Power and will be looking to rectify that in this match. They have had too good a year to go out in straight sets, but their finals record in recent seasons has not been pretty.

The Magpies are coming off a big win, and have not been at their best this season with the loss of some key personnel. They have the ability to win this match and could surprise.

The Cats have too much to play for, and it isn’t easy to see them dropping this one with a lot of experienced campaigners in the side. Cats to get it done.

Our Pick – Geelong (Win)

Player Props

Player Prop – Patrick Dangerfield + 81.5 Fantasy Points

If there is a player that wants finals success the most in the Cats side it will be Dangerfield. Since coming to the Cats, Dangerfield has a 3 win and 6 loss record in finals. He will try his best to put the Cats in a winning position and should end up close to this number. Dangerfield has gone forward in previous finals matches, so it may be a risky play, but Gary Ablett is back in the side and will spend the majority of the match in the Geelong forward half.

Player Prop – Gary Ablett – 1+ Goals

Ablett is back and will spend the majority of the contest up forward. He knows how to boot goals and his wealth of experience could prove valuable in this clash. Should kick a goal at some stage.
